Weight loss programs are not meant to be followed forever. They are meant to help you lose weight and then prevent you from gaining that weight back. Medifast is a healthy, effective plan, and its role is to aid you to achieve your weight loss goal. However, Medifast does more than this; after losing weight, you will be going through a transition phase, during which you will reintroduce certain foods in your diet. Then through a maintenance period, to get a grip on a healthier lifestyle, in order to preserve your success.
The weight loss phase
The Medifast weight loss plan is designed to help you lose weight constantly until you reach the goal you have set in the beginning. Typically, clients will lose 2 to 5 pounds per week in the first two weeks; afterwards, the weight loss per week will be reduced to 1 to 2 pounds per week. But it will continue, as long as the program is being followed to the letter, until the weight loss goal is reached.
The benefit of Medifast not being a crash program is that the chances for long term success are higher. Certified counselors work closely with clients for motivation, advice and celebration when goals are reached!
The transition phase
During the program, clients are forbidden to eat certain foods, such as starchy vegetables. During the transition phase (starting after the weight loss goal has been reached), they can begin reintroducing back additional healthy foods that were not included with the program. As the Medifast program is conducted under a Counselor’s supervision, it is recommended to keep in touch with your Certified Weight Loss Counselor and ask for more advice when needed.
The maintenance phase
Now that you have reached your weight loss goal, ideally you should maintain it, otherwise your results will be short lived. After the transition phase is finished, you will need to make sure that you are keeping up with the healthy lifestyle choices made as you followed the Medifast program with the education received during transition.
For instance, if you used to exercise while following the diet, do not give up. Exercise reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and helps you stay in shape. Keep in mind to always make healthy food choices, to prevent going back to your original weight before the program. As the Medifast program is not recommended to be kept indefinitely, you need to consider the efforts and the results obtained after the weight loss phase, and the best way to do that is to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
